This is a beautiful 19th Century green and gilt floral decorated slender porcelain urn with scroll shaped handles gilt painted on a tripod base.
The urn is an elegant example of a 19th Century beautiful porcelain vase with delicate and important details. The vase is in porcelain and has a slender ovoid form resting on a tripod made of scrolls on a base. The vase in royal green, has important details painted in gilt like the base, the scrolls, the handles, the rim of the vase and the finial. Some of the gilt has faded and this we believe has added character to this piece.
The vase has two main applied decorations; a beautiful floral scene with a butterfly and bird nest and on the opposite side a floral composition dominated by a single rose. The base and the neck of the vase have applied delicate rose trimming.
There are two elegant handles in the shape of bows and scrolls. The lid has holes suggesting this vase was used as a pot purri urn with scented flowers.
The urn is a beautiful decorative antique item with exquisite design, colour and shape. I can describe this piece as an elegant vase which would grace elegant environments and would provide a finishing touch to important interiors.
Condition report: This is an important 19th Century antique piece with a great deal of history. It is in overall good condition with the gold paint missing in some areas due to handling. The finial has been repaired in the past with a metal graph. All of the above are a testimony of the age and use of this very fine old piece of antique furniture which is full of character.
