This is one of a pair of watercolours, this one depicting a beautiful and idyllic mountain scene with two figures – one on a horse the other walking just behind. A lake on the left below suggests the setting could be either the Lake District, England or the Highlands of Scotland.

This work is well executed and from a skilled artist of the period. There is a monogram on the stone lower right “E.E.8...” and we believe it reads in full "E.E. 88 or 89" (1888)

Both items share the same original Victorian gilt frame from the same picture frame maker L. Steventon of Oldbury, West Midlands. Both frames are glazed.

Condition report: The gilt of the frame has aged in a very attractive way. There are two shrinkage one on the top right and the second on the bottom right corner. The watercolours are in very good condition having been looked after for future generations.

Dimensions: H:29 cm (11.5 inches); W: 48 cm (19 inches);
