This is a beautiful and elegant mahogany writing table with tooled green leather top with gilt trim and two drawers.
The table was built in the manner of “Maple & Co” one of the largest and most successful British furniture retailers and cabinet makers in the Victorian and Edwardian periods.
The wood of this fine piece is in very good condition and is in a rich warm medium mahogany colour. The long slender cabriole legs are elegantly supporting the table and are a real feature of this attractive piece. The skirt houses two central drawers each with two embossed brass round pulls. The top has a rectangular central tooled green leather top edged in gilt trim.
This eye catching antique table would prove an ideal piece as an occasional table for a hallway with a beautiful lamp on top or just used as a writing desk with an important chair.
Condition report: This fine example of Edwardian table dates back to circa 1900 and is over 100 years old. The table shows original building material and construction methods. However, as with most antiques there are signs of age and use. The tooled leather shows signs of wear and the gilt of the trim is faded in parts. There are fine scratches and small marks and dents – along the legs albeit in line with use and age. The bottom of the drawers has been replaced and re-varnished. All of the above is mentioned for accuracy and believed to be a testimony of the age and use of this very fine old piece of antique furniture.
