This is a lovely Victorian round tilt top mahogany table. Constructed from quality solid mahogany it has a circular top with moulded edge above a deep skirt. It is made in beautiful mahogany in an attractive dark colour.
It stands firmly on a solid octagonal column with an equally elegant turned collar on a tri form platform base and then standing on bun feet on castors. This table can seat between four to six people.
The table is a practical, sturdy and elegant piece of Victorian furniture with a lot of history. This is indeed a good example of the harmony and symmetry of the Victorian designed furniture. Victorian furniture survived in numbers due to the quality of the craftsmanship and timbers used and this table is no exception.
The top is released to tilt open by a metal catch. When not in use the table top can be tilted to save space. This item dates back to circa 1880
Condition report: This is an antique piece over 100 years old and as with all antique furniture there are signs of age and use. The brass catch is of a later date. The folding mechanism is in good working condition but one of the screws is longer than the other suggesting it is not original. There is a line right in the middle of the table where the wood has shrunk. As it can be seen from the photographs the top shows some minor marks and there are small dents around the rim of the table. The table has been re-polished sometime in the past. All of the above is mentioned for accuracy and believed to be a testimony of the age and use of this very fine old piece of antique furniture. Please review carefully the photographs of this lovely table.
