This is an elegant Arts and Crafts ( c 1900) walnut writing desk, hall table. The desk is in walnut which has aged in a warm colour and retains its original patina. There is a moulded age to the top with the original tooled and gilded leather skiver. There is a single drawer with wooden turned knobs and a faux matching drawer opposite.
The legs are elegant and well turned with reeds.
I can describe this desk as a lovely example of the Arts and Crafts period that can adapt to be used as a desk or as a hall lamp table.
Condition report: This is indeed a lovely desk with charm and character. The desk shows signs of age and use as follows: There are creases in the leather but not worth removing as original. The gilded skiver has faded in part and please refer to the photographs. There are various marks on the tooled leather including a ring mark. The wooden top of the table has a dark mark on one side and there is wood shrinkage on the opposite side – again please see photographs. All of the above are a testimony of the age and use of this very fine antique piece of furniture which is full of character. Please review carefully the photographs to see the items listed here.
