Painted by J Laurence Hart (1850-1907) who dated it 1878. Inscriptions verso by the artist with title of the painting, the address of the artist’s studio and a Victorian stamp with the name of the gallery where the painting was dealt with .
Work is signed lower right.
The painting is framed in an important gilt and gesso frame.
J Laurence Hart (1850-1907) Born in Harborne, Birmingham,was both a poet and an artist. He painted mainly watercolours of landscapes and rural scenes in the Impressionist style. At least 90 of his works were exhibited in London, Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham during his lifetime, and he was a regular contributor to the RBSA. Hart had addresses in Birmingham, Rugby and Morfa Nefyn, North Wales where fittingly the close Welsh community gave him a traditional ceremony on his death in the early part of the 20th century.
