This magnificent chest is an imposing antique Victorian (c 1870) Very Heavy Quality Scottish mahogany turned columns chest with nine drawers. The deep central drawer has a beautiful and attractive carving in mahogany that has aged wonderfully. Hidden in the cornice there is a single shallow drawer accessible only from inside the deep central drawer. There are two single drawers on the left, a deep drawer in the centre – as described and a deep drawer on the right concealed as a two drawers. There are an additional three standard drawers and a shallow one just at the bottom of the chest concealed as a cornice and as shown in the photographs. The drawers are furnished with turned slightly ebonised – therefore darker in colour, mahogany knobs and they all have original brass locks except for one drawer – first long one (no key is supplied but a suitable replacement should be obtainable if required). The whole is flanked by beautifully turned columns that complete this chest strikingly. The mahogany of the chest of drawers has aged in a warm honey colour and it has a good patina and is in good condition considering it is some 150 years old! The chest stands firmly on four castors. It has been beautifully cleaned inside and out using a traditional form of wax finishing and it is ready to grace your home. I can describe this piece as a rare find and one that seldom comes available.
