This is a large and evocative oil on canvas by renown English painter Thomas Reginald Attwood (c 1865-1926) The painting depicts the lush landscape and mountains forming the perfect backdrop for the river Manawatu (New Zealand) running through the green hills where sheep graze.The silence broken only by the running waters.
T R Attwood was born in Birmingham, England and while his parents moved to New Zealand he joined them on the Crusader in 1882. A talented artist, Thomas Reginald exhibited with the Canterbury Society of Arts in 1885, with New Zealand Art Student Association in Auckland 1885 and as a member of the Auckland Society of Arts 1886-87 and as a Canterbury member 1888-91. In 1891 settled in Palmerston North and it is as a Palmerston North painter he is known and listed.
The oil on canvas is framed in its original wood and bronze frame.
