This is a superb and elegant hard to find Victorian (c 1850) mahogany chest of four graduating long drawers. The chest retains all the original method of building – just check the dovetails of the drawers in the photographs. The drawers have delicately turned – spherical shaped with a conic tip, wooden handles. There is a single locking mechanism in the form of a hinged locking plate down the right hand in side of the chest, which locks over the drawers.
This is one of a kind Victorian chest with a deep colour mahogany which has aged superbly. It has a good original patina and is in very good condition considering it is over 160 years old! The chest stands on a plinth base.
I can describe this piece as superb, high quality Victorian antique furniture with a unique appeal.
Condition report: The chest dates back to circa 1850 and it is more than 160 years old! The chest is in perfect original condition but as with all antiques there are signs of age and use as follows: The top of the chest has small dents and fine scratches. There is a small damage to the wood at the back end of the right side of the top. The top drawer has small scratches at the front on the left hand in side. The wood of the drawers where is covered by the hinged panel shows some light damage to the veneer ,due to the use during Victorian times of the locking plate. There are some small dents on the plinth. All of the above are a testimony of the age and use of this very fine antique piece of furniture.
