This magnificent chest is an imposing Victorian (c 1870) Scottish mahogany barley twist chest with four graduated drawers. The top drawer has a serpentine front , the other drawers a gradually bigger with the lowest drawer being the biggest, including the plinth. The drawers - lined in oak, are furnished with original turned mahogany handles and they all have original brass locks (no key is supplied but a suitable replacement should be obtainable if required).

The mahogany of the chest of drawers has a beautiful warm honey colour, good patina and is in good condition considering it is some 150 years old! The chest stands on four spherical feet.

The chest has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.

I can describe this piece as a lovely, high quality Victorian Scottish antique furniture with a great deal of character.

Condition report: The chest dates back to circa 1870 and is some 150 years old! The main casing of the chest shows original building material and construction methods. However, as with all antiques there are signs of small dents, fine scratches and chipped veneer like in the case of the top right rear corner. The top of the chest has some minor scratches and a slight shrinkage of the wood horizontally. All of the above are a testimony of the age and use of this very fine antique piece of furniture which is full of character. Please review carefully the photographs to see the items listed here.
